ECCLESIOLOGY AND THE PRESENT MINISTERIAL TRAINING.

The six major issues of ministerial training in the institutions like ours are:-

  1. Ecclesiology
  2. Bibliology
  3. Theology
  4. Missiology
  5. Christian ministry
  6. Religion

Our emphasis here is on ecclesiology which means the studies of the church. EL University of Theology and Biblical Seminary as a church oriented  Institution focuses on the church and its day-to-day  ministries. Stated below are what every student must know about.

  1. THE BASIC MANAGERIAL FUNCTIONS IN THE CHURCH.

The church is an organization that demands steady management, steady attention and steady caring because of people, money, materials, ministries and other things attached to its existence. The church management is the management of the 7ms. These 7ms are the true basic of church existence and survival. If the church fails in the management of these 7ms, it fails in all its administration which shall speedily affects its spirituality, its growth and its stability. The seven management scales are as follows:-

  1. The Management of Men: This is to know who is who in your church, and to know what each person can do, their moral, spiritual, social, academic, physical, charismatic and psychological abilities to do one thing or the other in the church and find ways to use each of them where they can possibly be used for the best results in the church without using the beloved one who can do nothing. Fix people where they can function very well to effect increase and needed results in the church of God.

  1. Management of Money: This is the right use of church finance and the Biblical method of spending God’s money. It is spending and not wasting God’s money, neither should that be method of lavishing God’s income which is sin. The management of church money involves spending every income for the specific purpose it was raised and not to divert the money to another programme. What is tithe for, what of offering, where shall we spend that cash raised last week for church vehicle? Every cash raised shall be spend for the purpose it was raised for, and with clear conscience and open book for both physical and spiritual accountabilities.
  1. Management of Materials: This is the management of material things in the church, such as the bread and wine for the Holy Communion, the rice, meat, wine, clothes, hall and the chairs for the soon coming wedding in the church. It is also to make ready the sleeping room, food and the gift for the visiting minister. The food of the visiting overseer and things needed to make the soon coming water baptism or conference a huge success. These shall be made ready to avoid any leakage or disappointment from such corner.

  1. Management of Machineries: This is to make proper sure that the church electric light generator, the horn speakers, the sound boxes, the and set, the public addressing system, the microphones and  other electric and electronics needed to be used in the church occasion to be ready before the day and repair the faulty ones before the date of the programme. It is to make the computer, the handset for direct communication and other machineries to be in good functional order before the occasion day.
  1. Management of the Ministry: Be diligent to know the state of thy flock, if you love me feed my sheep, these statements are from both old and New Testament of our Bible. The Management of ministry is to know what the church needs at any given time.

Is this church weak? Does this church need any motivation? Are the members not paying their tithes? Are they weak in prayer, weak in evangelism, late in services, always absent in programme or very lazy in things of God? If so, what are the causes and what shall we do to restore the members? What type of ministry is required and whose ministry is needed and when shall all these take place? Ministers should have these foresights, insights and burdens for their churches for effective church growth, harmony and church stability.

  1. Management of Missions: This is the restoration of the vision, the purpose, the target, mission and the actualization of why the ministry or the church is existing. Any ministry without mission is missing. Every church leader, minister, founder, head of department, church officer, committee chairman, minister in charge, Local Church Pastor, General Overseer or any freelancer must have a mission, a  focus, a destination and a target to achieve. Every minister must have goals to score. Why are you doing what you are doing? What are things to achieve through what you are doing? Where do you want to start? Whom do you want to use? What is your primary assignment? How do you want to get there? What is your ministry? What vision are you having and how do you want to actualize it? These questions shall steadily spring out of the hearts of ministers with mission or focus and the answers to them are total management of mission.

  1. Management of ME: Management of me is otherwise called self management or proper self understanding, because if a man did not understand himself, he can never understand others. There are some gospel ministers who do not understand whom they are, and therefore cannot understand others. Management of ME is to master your spiritual stand, to master your temperamental stand and to master your weakness, your infirmity, your strength and your enemies that easily over take you. It is to control your anger, to control your temper, to control your attacker that makes you to fail often. Believers must manage their behaviours, words, action and activities. Many ministers who lack self management have fought at the altar, in the church, in the markets, in public and have often beat their wives. Self management is the key to the ministers success and the key to preserve the ministers integrity. Every gospel minister must without ceasing control his words, control his actions, his thoughts, his feelings, his plans, quick response to issues of life. Church splitting, church fighting, failure in ministries and disagreement between pastor and people came as a result of poor self management. No pastor can manage the church without self management first. Minister, please manage yourself, manage your family, then manage your church.

A thorough and through management in the ministry shall give the needed life, progress, success, growth and stability expected by the man of God by members of the church. Don’t forget the seven ms of church management.

THE BASIC NEEDS IN THE CHURCH
There are six basic needs of the people in our churches today and the good knowledge of the Gospel ministers on these will help them in their teaching, in their preaching, in their counseling, in their announcements and in their general ministrations in their fields. The general knowledge of the gospel ministers about their members make them to be the best of their types. Irrespective of the numerous people earlier mentioned in this book as those that make up the congregation with many needs and problems, still as of those needs are summarized  in these six basic needs or problems of men in our society, in our communities and in our churches today.

  1. Physical needs: Every person wants to be physically fit, healthy, healed and physically balanced, thus, there are many herbalist selling their herbs and many drugs in the markets for the patronage of those with health problems. This is the reason why many people are searching for where they can be prayed for their healing. Every person desires for healing and God wants us to be healed also. Physical needs is a demand and great desire of many people in our society and in our churches. The Gospel Ministers should know this and build their ministries. There are people in your church with great burdens of their physical needs, they need good and sound health, know how to help them.

  1. Spiritual Needs: The issue of spiritual matters shall not be over emphasized. This is the need to be saved from sins, the need to make peace with God and with men, it is the need to be holy and the need to be spiritually filled. It is the need to be free from satanic chains, demonic bondages, evil oppressions, demonic possessions and the need to be freed, delivered, loosed and the need to be liberated from evil powers. Many people need freedom from unseen powers, thus there are hundreds of people seeking for salvation, sanctification, infilling of God’s power, anointing and thousands seeking for deliverance and or family liberation. The Gospel Ministers must know this and find ways to solve their problems.
  1. Psychological Needs: This is the need to solve curiosities, tensions, crises, burden, regular pains and the problems that have so touched, disturbed and troubled the souls of the victims. Some people in this case are the barren women, the afflicted, the sick, the down trodden and the victims of failures in businesses. These classes of people today are patronizing the witch doctors, juju priests, quack preachers, false prophets and heretic distributors of our days, because we fail to recognize them. They are there in your church, get them, teach them and help them to survive. Every person in the church wants his problem to be solved, nobody wants to remain in his or her case while in the church.

  1. Social Needs: The social needs are the needs to belong. Every person wants to belong somewhere. It is natural to belong, thus, we have town union, daughters union, traders union, occult group, social clubs, drivers union, Village meetings, kindred meeting, Market Union, Religious gathering, the church and the saved Christians. The Gospel Ministers should have this knowledge and try hard to make all their converts, church members who belong to the body of Christ, because if we fail to make them be of Christ, they shall ne of crises and shall jump into any closer club or society for their social belonging. You must try hard to make your members belong to Christ and to the church alone.
  1. Material Needs: This is the need to have foods, clothes, money, house, home, cars, radios and the needs to have something that shall keep man living. Every person needs food, room, bed, chairs, clothes and shoes. No person wants to live without these still, there are many without them. How shall we help them if they come to our churches? Shall we take them away because they are poor or shall we accommodate them to avoid pushing them to fetish actions and diabolic feelings, you have silent members in this category, find ways to help them be of Christ, because JESUS died for them, treat them as you treat your beloved, the eyes of God are still on them. Plan how to help them

  1. Physiological Needs: This is the need to live alright, the need to function very well, the need to function normal and the need to have normal mental stability and spiritual restoration, coupled with the  balanced of mind. It is the need to function reasonably, have complete rest, full assurance of life and peace of mind. Every person needs this and fights daily to get them. Many people are in the church because of such needs, while some resolved to patronize the quarks for the same issue. The pastors should know their people’s needs and make ways to win them. The true soul winning is winning those with problem, “I know my sheep”. We shall elaborate some of these topics in our next year ministers conference, pray for us on that.

The Gospel Ministers should try hard to understand the needs of the sheep, needs of the church, the goat in the midst, the lamb lying under, the wolves in the church, the flock of the Lord, the serpent in the congregation and the pigs in the palour in order to help the church become what God says it should be.

GENERAL AND SPIRITUAL QUALITIES OF THE GOSPEL SERVANTS.

There are expected moral, spiritual, social and ministerial qualities expected of the Gospel Servant whether as an Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, Teacher or any other servant rendering service in the church as ordered by God. The owner of the business being God stipulated how his servants should be and what qualities they shall possess.

  1. Ex. 18:19-23:  (i) Fear of God  (ii) Men of truth  (iii) Haters of covetousness  (iv) Able men  (v)  Listening ears. These five qualities are God’s desire for those who shall teach and lead others on behalf of God.

  1. Acts, 6:1-7:  (i) Men of good reputation (ii) Full of Holy Ghost (iii)  Full of wisdom  (iv) Constant in prayers  (v)   Ministering the word. These are the ministerial qualities to build the church which are required of every gospel servant in the church.
  1. 1Tim. 3:1-13:  (i) Blamelessness (pure)  (ii) Husband of one wife  (iii) Self control  (iv) Sober minded  (v) Good behaviour  (vi) Hospitable  (vii) Able to teach  (viii) Not taking any alcohol  (ix) Not violent  (x) Not greedy for money  (xi) Gentle  (xii) Not quarrelsome  (xiii) Not covetous  (xiv) One that rules his home very well  (xv) One the subject his own children to the rules of the gospel (xvi) Not a novice (xvii) One with good reputation from within and outside the church.

Deacons must also be (i) Respectful (ii) Not double tongued (iii) Not taking any alcoholic wine (iv) Not greedy for money (v) Holding the mystery of faith with pure heart (Holiness) (vi) proven men in the church of God.  (vii) Blamelessness  (viii) With respectful wives  (ix) Not slanderous  (x) Blamelessness  (xi) Self control  (xii) Faithful in all things  (xiii) Husbands of one wife  (xiv) Godly co-ordinators of their homes and controllers of their children in godly ways. These are God’s standards for those who wish to serve God whether in churches, ministries, fellowships, Assemblies, Missions or in congregations. God cannot lower His standard because of our failures, rather, we shall adjust to meet God’s standards and desires in order to have rewards at last.

  1. Titus 1:5-9:  (a) Blamelessness  (ii) Husband of one wife  (iii) One that controls his children with godly instructions  (iv) One whose family members are not accused of dissipation or insubordination (v) Not self will  (vi) Not violent  (vii) Not quick tempered  (viii) Not taking alcoholic wine  (ix) Not greedy for money  (x)Hospitable  (xi) Love of good things  (xii) Sober minded  (xiii) Just  (xiv) Holy  (xv) Holding faithfully the word of God  (xvii) Teaching sound doctrine  (xviii) Impartial in all things.

These are God’s standard, I am not the author of the Bible, rather the Bible we use is God’s word for us to obey. This is what makes EL University of Theology and Biblical Seminary great and it is based on these that the goggle graded and accredited EL-University of Theology and Biblical Seminary as the best Theological University in Nigeria. You can check the internet for this truth.

Brethren, let us heed to God’s instructions and directives in order to be what God wants us to become and to get what God has promised us to get. May the great God impart this truth in your heart, head and life so as to promote you as you obey God today.

God’s pulpit and ministry do not demand the presence and actions of strickers, fighters, dupes, money lovers, false teachers, false prophets, deceivers, magicians, occult men and women, proud men and women, cheap fame seekers without heavenly fame, neither does heaven approve pulpit sinners. Let us seek God first and all that shall please Him, while He comes down for our blessings. Mtt. 6:33, Deut. 28:1-14, Ps. 1:1-4. The steady and uninterrupted blessing of the servants of God come from their whole hearted obedience to the word of God.

THE BIBLE HEROES TO EMULATE

The call of God has not been changed since the time of Noah till our days. Man can change but God cannot change. We are the cause of our problems and pains and not God, if we act like the heroes past, we shall get their blessings, praises and rewards. God wants us to live , act and respond like them as stated below.

  1. We should act like Noah who did not question God why but built the ark according to God’s pattern and according to God’s demand Gen. 1:13-22.

  1. Like  Abraham who left father, land, country and other relations to follow God’s instruction. Gen. 12:1-6.
  1. Like Moses who left the sheep and responded to God’s order, stood boldly before Pharoah and demanded the release of the God’s people without looking at the Pharoah’s face and title. Ex. 4:16-31.

  1. Like Joshua who was obedient to Moses and received the power and prayers from Moses to defeat the enemies at war. Joshua 1:1-10
  1. Like Samuel who was called in his infant days and maintained such oil with all faith and faithfulness till death, who pronounced “who among you can convalesce me of sin, whose gold, money, ox or property have I taken by tricks. 1Sam. 12:1-10.

  1. Like David who was fearless to face Goliath, he did not run when others ran and never fainted where others fainted, but full of faith, courage and power to face Goliath and finally killed Goliath. 1Sam. 13:34-58.
  1. Like Elijah who stood before king Ahab to speak the truth irrespective of the great pollution in the land. He still stood for God while other prophets declared for Baal. “Tell Ahab, Elijah is here” It is you and your fathers house that trouble Israel “said by Elijah the Prophet to Ahab”. 1king 18:1-20.

  1. Like Elisha who refused money from Naaman and was not moved with gifts, the cash and the gold from the rich man. Money was not his problem, his ministry was not for money but to represent GOD and His WORD. He was loyal to Elijah who prayed for him and passed greater unction to him 2Kings 5:9-27.
  1. Like Isaiah who spoke to king Hezekiah without looking at his face and without fear and without expecting money, nor desire a gift and never changed what God has sent him for. He did not compromise his mandate from God but said “Thus said the Lord, put your house in order, you shall die in this sickness, you must die and shall not live, be ready for death. Isa. 38:1-9.

  1. Like John the Baptist who never mind about the clothes and attires of this world but strictly bent to the message without expecting great praises, clapping of hands or people’s oral shouting of sweet words, but lamented “Repent” for the kingdom of God is at hand, the axe is now laid at the root of the tree, bring you therefore fruit worth to repentance” He did not tell the crowd of sweet sermon but the truth. Mtt. 3:4-12.
  1. Like Peter who was bold on the day of the Pentecost, who also was very penitent to realize and recognize his failures of denying the Lord JESUS, thrice and expressed his deep repentance with tears and weeping. He said “There’s no other name to save unless JESUS name Act. 4:11-12.

  1. Like Paul who was the missionary to the Gentiles, a constant prisoner for the Lord, still with all joy and never regretted for being a minister, bitten by snakes and beaten by men, imprisoned for Christ still with hole and joy. “He asked God what do you want me to do for you; Lord what do you want me to do?” Acts 9:1-8.

GOD’S CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATIONS TODAY

Has the voice of God ceased? Is God no more speaking to us? Does God still communicate to HIS people? Yes God is still speaking, still communicating and still dealing with His people, only that a verbal God is speaking to deaf ears. Below are the channels through which God is communicating to the Church today.

  1. Through Preaching: This is altar or pulpit sermons.
  2. Through teaching: This is through Bible interpretations.
  3. Through Prophecy: This is by fore or forth telling the truth.
  4. Through Dreams: Information while sleeping or during deep sleeping.
  5. Through Trance: Information while slumbering or dozing but not sleeping.
  6. Through Vision: Information while praying, thinking, meditating, reading or during spiritual composition.
